Christmas is coming, and the
goose food blogger is getting fat.
Seriously. Given my efforts to cram as many Christmas recipes onto this blog as possible before the big day, I am going to end up rotund by New Year.
I’m taking a break today and getting my porky butt to the gym (my Pilates-given abs of steel are buried below layers of pudding, cake and cookies) so instead here’s some delightful, healthy recipes culled from the vast repository of knowledge that is the web.
1. First up is a delicious-sounding peppermint hot chocolate which even the dairy-free can enjoy. Instead of using peppermint essence, they’ve gone with peppermint tea which makes it a winner in my book. Peppermint tea is my crack.
2. It’s very, very difficult to get a good grain-free cookie. Real Food Freaks seem to have nailed it with these Molasses Cookies. I admit to feeling jealous….and hungry.
3. This might just be my new favourite thing – chocolate almond bark. Stick it in a fancy-looking bag, add a ribbon and you’ve got an inexpensive, thoughtful holiday gift (I hope my neighbours aren’t reading this…surprise guys!).
4. More bark here, at the Nourished Kitchen. This time it’s honey-sweetened white chocolate and if that doesn’t get your appetite going, you are clearly dead or insane.
5. Fresh 4 Five has a new take on the traditional turkey dinner – Sticky & Sweet Turkey Meatballs. Yes please.
6. And no Christmas meal would be complete without something to serve with the tea/coffee course (if your belly hasn’t ruptured by then). Try this delicious-looking Cranberry Lemon Loaf, made with almond flour and boasting one of the healthiest glazes I’ve seen in a while.
7. I realise that this list is heavy on the desserts but I just can’t help myself when I see things like this peppermint brownie roll. Genius.
8. Back when I refused to eat meat (silly blogger), I cooked a tiny cornish game hen for hubs one Christmas. It went down a treat, as would these roasted, brined, cornish game hens with pomegranate sauce from REM Cooks.
So, that’s your lot. All that remains is for the whirlwind of shopping, preparing and cooking to begin. G’luck!
