I had a hard time controlling Dog when I was cooking these burgers.
Which is odd because, to my knowledge, he’s never tasted jalapeno or mozzarella, so he has no idea what a delicious combo they are.
Nevertheless, his little doggie eyes lit up at the smell of these burgers frying and I had to beat him back from the stove.
You can, of course, grill, broil or BBQ these suckers but I chose to fry them in coconut oil (hubs is a stickler when it comes to burgers: they must be fried).
After 7 minutes per side in the oil over a high heat*, they were perfect – crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside…and with a cheesy, spicy hit.
*the cooking time really depends on the thickness of your burgers so judge accordingly
Jalapeno & Mozzarella Burgers (makes 8)
- 1 jalapeno, finely chopped
- 1 cup grated mozzarella
- 16 oz ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 small, white onion
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp butter
- Heat the butter in a small pan. Add the onion, garlic and jalapeno. Saute for 5 minutes over a low heat. Remove and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, break up the ground beef and season well. Toss in the mozzarella and egg and mix. Add the onion/garlic/jalapeno mixture and stir thoroughly until combined.
- Shape into patties roughly the size of your palm. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes then remove and bake or grill until brown.
