Jalapeno & Mozzarella Burgers

I had a hard time controlling Dog when I was cooking these burgers.

Which is odd because, to my knowledge, he’s never tasted jalapeno or mozzarella, so he has no idea what a delicious combo they are.

Nevertheless, his little doggie eyes lit up at the smell of these burgers frying and I had to beat him back from the stove.

You can, of course, grill, broil or BBQ these suckers but I chose to fry them in coconut oil (hubs is a stickler when it comes to burgers: they must be fried).

After 7 minutes per side in the oil over a high heat*, they were perfect – crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside…and with a cheesy, spicy hit.

*the cooking time really depends on the thickness of your burgers so judge accordingly

Jalapeno & Mozzarella Burgers (makes 8)

  • 1 jalapeno, finely chopped
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella
  • 16 oz ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 small, white onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp butter
  1. Heat the butter in a small pan. Add the onion, garlic and jalapeno. Saute for 5 minutes over a low heat. Remove and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, break up the ground beef and season well. Toss in the mozzarella and egg and mix. Add the onion/garlic/jalapeno mixture and stir thoroughly until combined.
  3. Shape into patties roughly the size of your palm. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes then remove and bake or grill until brown.
